Week 3, Day 1

Today saw a big change in the new kitchen space: the window is installed!  There are a few things in this remodel that I'm excited about, a few things The Mister is excited about, and a few things we are both excited about.  I think the bigger kitchen window with room for plants (him) and pictures (me) is high on both of our lists.  There were also a few updates in the plumbing arena and a sneak peak into the latest design modification .

An outside shot showing the difference in the footprint of the new window vs the old window.
The Mister posing next to the new window in place.  It looks much smaller installed than it did when he stood next to it in the garage.
Each side of the window has a pane that will raise and allow for ventilation through the window.
We peaked into the plumbers secret passage to the crawl space.  Shh, don't tell!
A valve was installed into the pipes in the kitchen.  I am sure the contractor has a reason for this, but I don't know yet what it is.
Part of the new tankless hot water heater installation is to get hot water to the master bathroom of the house more quickly than it currently arrives.  It takes ~ 2 gallons of water through the pipes before any hot water arrives in that area of the house.  To alleviate this waste, the pipes are being redone to get hot water to those areas more directly than the previous configuration.  This grey tubing is the new network for the hot water to get to the master bath sinks and the laundry room.

See that big, metal duct work in the ceiling in the above picture?  Well, it happens to reside right where the vent work was planned for the new exhaust over the island cooktop.  So, we had to go to plan B.  After receiving an initial recommendation from the contractor on building a smaller soffit over the island to "hide" this pipework which must now move 12" to the West, we are going with a soffit that will go the entire length of the island and mimic the footprint of the island on the ceiling.  The house near us that I fell in love with has a similar look in the kitchen and so I quickly ran over there (yes, I did partly run to get there) and took some pictures for all to review.  We decided this is the way to go, so the initial construction of this new area began today.  There will be 4 can lights inside the soffit as well as the hood over the range.  I look forward to seeing how this shapes up and adds architectural design to the whole space.  It is definitely helping us to visualize where cabinets will be in the future as we stand under it and dream of seeing the space completed.  7 more weeks to go...
