Alternatively titled: this is one of the slow to us periods.
I debated on breaking this post out into 3 days, but then I decided I might lose the 4 people who are reading about this journey. So I'll spare you the whole "And this is the new blue box today" and "oh, look, today it's a metal box" posts and cram it all into this one post. The electrician worked in the crawl space some so there are also undocumented by me pictures because I have no desire to go back into the crawl space. In true man fashion, each of the contractors has commented on it being the cleanest crawl space they have ever been in. Oh, and I threw in a few plumbing shots for fun.
Left: Week 2
Right: Week 3
The black piping was cut off for reasons we don't yet know but will tell you when we do.
Additional tubing was added to the gas pipe which will tie in with the gas cooktop on the island.
Here's the deal: these boxes make both the Mister and I very excited. However, I don't want to tell you exactly what they are for until it's all said and done. Just know they will be outlets. Very, very exciting outlets.
Here you can see there are 4 outlets (and the old vent ductwork from the microwave of the kitchen past.) This area of the kitchen will feature uninterrupted counter space wrapping from the double ovens on the wall to the left of the picture and make an L to the kitchen sink which would be to the right of the picture. The cabinets under this space will hold the mixer, food processor, etc. for baking, mixing, etc.
The electrician cut in a bigger outlet space to the right of the sliding doors onto the deck. This will now be a double switch with one switch controlling the deck light an done controlling the can lights that go around the perimeter of the kitchen.
Can lights around the soffit, can lights inside the soffit and where you see red tape on the wall where the wiring for the under the cabinet lights will be hard wired into the kitchen.
This is the main switch box for the kitchen. The left and right switches will control the can lighting (one for the lights inside the soffit and one for the lights outside the soffit) and the middle switch will control all the under cabinet lighting except for one location.
The plumber was able to transition from the old tanked hot water heater to the tankless. The space is now empty so the Mister decided to act out what the hot water tank looked like before it was removed. One of the upsides to getting rid of the tank hot water heater is that this space is large enough for a stand up freezer. We are excited this space is now open and ready to hold the new freezer when it arrives in a couple of weeks with all the appliances.
Caution tape IN your house and "very, very exciting outlets" sounds like a pretty epic few days to me! Good luck surviving all of this... can't wait to see it all come together!
